Boycott Sri Lanka, say IT Professionals

Posted in News

Calling upon the IT professionals to restrain from touring Sri Lanka, Save Tamils Movement in Chennai launched Boycott Sri Lanka campaign on May 17 observed as Mullivaaykkaal Massacre Day after thousands of people were killed on May 17, 2009 in Mullivaaykkaal in Sri Lanka.

It has been four years since more than 1.5 lakh Tamil civilians were killed in the genocide conducted by the Sri Lankan government and sponsored by more than 20 countries that were keen in keeping their weapons market up. Though the war ended in 2009, Tamils continue to be under the heels of the ruthless Sri Lankan army. The mass slaughter is now being followed by a slow extermination; the Tamil areas have now become 'slow killing fields'. Despite the government of Sri Lanka repeatedly lying to the world that peace has returned to the country, the international community has still not acted against the draconian government that killed lakhs of Tamils with impunity.

PMK and Caste Politics

Posted in Opinion

Paataali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) manifestation of the caste supremacy has yet again taken a violent form with the burning of Dalit houses in Marakkanam Dalit Colony on April 25, 2013.  The PMK supporters on their way to the Chithirai Thiruvizha at Mamallapuram beach burnt down houses, hit, and terrorized people of the Dalit colony in Marakkanam and Koonimedu areas in the East Coast Road (ECR).

The violence on Dalits during Chithirai Thiruvizha is not a new phenomenon considering the incidents reported 2002 in Marakkanam. The spreading of hatred against Dalits by PMK can be viewed from Dr Ramadoss’s familial  political interests. His announcement to contest elections alone after the humiliating defeat in the 2011 assembly elections and the anti-Dalit speeches delivered by PMK leaders thereafter is merely a shedding of the progressive garb it wore in the 1980s.
