Leaders from various political parties condemned the attack on the KKNPP protestors who came for talks to Tirunelveli collectorate in Tamil Nadu. On 31 January, representatives from People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) came to the collectorate office at Tirunelveli to hold talks with the expert committee appointed by the Central government. However the representatives from PMANE including two women were attacked by the local goons from pro-Hindutva party Hindu Munnani. They dragged the representatives of PMANE from the jeep and assaulted them and started pelting stones on the vehicle in which the representatives arrived.

This brutal attack on PMANE representatives dragged serious criticism and condemn from various political leaders. MDMK party chief, Mr.Vaiko condemned the attack saying that the Central government is trying to open the KKNPP by using force against the protestors who are protesting in a democratic and peaceful way. Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam chief Mr.Kolathur Mani raised suspicion on the attacks on PMANE representatives. He said government is trying to escalate the tension among the protestors and then suppress the protest in the name of law and order.

Meanwhile a joint mass protest has been scheduled on 03 February near Panagal Maaligai, Saidapet in Chennai at 10 am. Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Naam Thamizhar and Thamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi together conducting this protest, condemning the attacks on PMANE representatives and demanding legal action against those who involved in the attacks.
